MAIDEN VOYAGE

During the Cold War, DAKAR, originally a WWII British “T-class” submarine, was en route from Portsmouth, England, to Haifa, Israel, via Gibraltar, after undergoing modifications and upgrades.

The submarine communicated with headquarters every 6 hours using HF-Morse code, including a daily position report at 6 a.m. After reporting its position just past Crete and conducting three subsequent radio checks with no issues, communication from the DAKAR ceased. The last confirmed transmission occurred shortly after midnight on January 25, 1968.

This sail marked the DAKAR’s maiden voyage.
